14/08/2014 : Adrian heading for Bronze!
Area 24 rider, Adrian Speight riding Caprice PSZ claimed their HOYS ticket in the Bronze League semi finals at Keysoe this weekend. There were 56 starters with majority getting through to the second round which was over a shortened course, a fair few finished in the jump off. It was the jump off that seperated most, with not so many clear rounds. Adrian was mid way through the jump off and went clear in 40 something seconds (he thought he'd gone faster) which left him in 7th up till then. It was only the top 7 to qualify so it was a nail biting time watching the last 12 or so jumping off. People felt the pressure, poles came down and there were a couple of steady clears but Adrian stayed in 7th! It was an exciting class with some quality horses and Adrian is really looking forward to the final at HOYS.
06/08/2014 : Leonie takes her 4th HOYS qualification
Area 24 Junior rider Leonie Aitkenhead claimed her 4th ticket for HOYS this weekend this time riding Gregory 55 (pictured) the talented pair jumped the only triple clear in the Foxhunter 2nd Round at the Scottish HPI at Morris EC.
Riding Gregory's big sister Foxy Lady 55 she had already won the Pony Showjumper at the Wales and West HPI, she had previously qualified Foxy Lady for the Foxhunter Finals.
Leonie has her third pony Newton Samson qualified for HOYS in the Pony Showjumper. A massive achievement and we wish Leonie the very best of luck!!
05/08/2014 : Area 24 Senior Team qualifies for Scope
A report from the Area team jumping by our very own Chelsea Skelton - 'Team jumping was a huge success for Area 24 at our regional qualifier, with everyone producing the necessary great jumping to provide us with a clean slate; securing us a place in the jump off. With a total of 4 teams going through to the jump off with only 2 qualifying spots on grabs, Caramba and myself pulled out all the stops to not only be the fastest but also the only clear, meaning top spot for Area 24's team! It was really great to see such good team spirit with everyone supporting their team members and quite a bit of cheering too!'
A really big congratulations to Suzy Ottewell, Cameron Skelton, Sophie Corney and Chelsea Skelton, and good luck at SCOPE!
05/08/2014 : Team Truelove going for gold
Junior Area 24 member Holly Truelove and her pony Toya Whispering Sand represented their country at a recent show at Rowallan in Scotland. Holly and fellow 128 team members Ria Scott, Harry Wood and Oliver Fletcher brought home the GOLD medal!!! Whoop, whoop!!
Holly's brother Henry helped the Scottish 148 team to bring home the silver.
Well done team Truelove
22/07/2014 : Henry Truelove takes HOYS ticket and represents his country
Junior Area 24 rider, Henry Truelove has qualified for HOYS after jumping triple clear in the Junior Foxhunter 2nd Round on Quality Maes Z at Bury Farm to finish a very creditable 2nd. Henry has also been selected to represent England at the forthcoming HPI at Wales and West. Congratulations Henry
22/07/2014 : Sue and Athena top BS Club tables in East Midlands
Athena de la Cour S and Sue Evans have had an amazing season in Club showjumping this year convincingly topping the East Midlands league tables at 80, 90 and 1metre. This honest, careful mare rarely leaves a competition without a rosette. Sue and Athena started Club competitions 2 years ago and have progressed from 70 through to 1 metre gaining confidence and experience on the way.

'My riding has improved due to being able to access BS training which has given me the confidence to jump bigger, I now feel ready to affiliate' Sue said.

'Club showjumping is a great way to introduce young horses and amateur riders to affiliated competition as courses are properly built by BS judges. It also gives combinations a chance to prepare for grassroots eventing as courses are of a similar complexity.'

Many show centres run Club shows including Arena UK, Hill House Equestrian and White House Farm in area 24.

25/08/2012 : Report from Junior Academy Teams by Saffron Leech
Junior Academy Team Show Jumping at Weston Lawns 21/22nd Agugst 2012 Our team was picked at very short notice from the Notts/Lincs Area Academy. The team included Emily Blakemore on Pippa, Rebecca Green on Thiseldown Princess, Henry Truelove on Machno Endeavour and myself Saffron Leech on The Spice Master. We arrived at Weston Lawns on the Monday night as we had never been before and wanted the next day to be as calm as it possibly could be and not lost in Coventry somewhere. We were all up and ready on the Tuesday morning, ponies washed and brushed within an inch of their lives. We had a bit of time as we were in Class 2 due to start at around 11ish. We all walked the course taking in the great surroundings. We were all very excited and apprehensive when we realised the quality of the other teams and their ponies. It came to Emily to jump first and she had a great clear round, then came Rebecca who jumped fantastic but had an unfortunate 4 faults, it then came to my turn and I was really pleased with my clear round followed by Henry who also had a great clear. We finished the day on a high and were all really pleased with our teams performance knowing we had finished on a clean score sheet. DAY 2. This started at 8.30 prompt. Emily was to go first again for us but had a very unfortunate 4 faults, Rebecca had a fantastic clear round and then it came to my turn, I was just about to go forward from the warm up ring when my pony was kicked on the leg causing him to hop in pain. The steward stepped in and advised that they would place me last in the class to allow us to assess his injury to see if we could continue. Whilst this was going on Henry jumped a really nice clear round. After a while my pony seemed ok so was given the all clear to jump if we wanted, we decided to go for it, I was the final competitor in the ring (no pressure) a place in the final was resting on it. My pony felt ok but tightened up into the last jumps which resulted in the last 2 poles coming down giving me 8 faults. we finished this round on 12 faults in total and with this score it was good enough to get us through to the jump off against 6 other teams for 3rd place. Again Emily jumped first with a very unlucky pole down as her pony kicked back over the jump,Rebecca next, had an unfortunate stop on an exciting tight turn, fantastic to say she hadn't had the pony long. Then came my turn again and regained our way with a blinding clear round considering the kick we had had not long before. Henry continued with his consistency of the day and produced another clear round but was unfortunate to just be outside the time of being placed individually. After a nerve racking wait the whole team, parents as well. erupted into cheers as we found out we had finished in a fantastic 5th place. We were all able to support each other due to meeting up through the Academy training this year. Some of us had issues to over come to even be there. A big thank you to Ruth Tyler (East Midlands Development Officer) for helping sort these out. Also a big thanks for training and organisation in the Academy to Selina Cawkwell and Joanne Burns. Saffron Leech (Team Captain)

Katie and Theo were fourth to go in the ten horse jump off and upto this point there were no clears but Katie still decided to 'go for it' as there were six horses to go after her. Katie said 'I went tight around all the corners but kept Theo in a good rythm, the only one I went around to was the last fence which was the planks, I pushed on round and took a stride out! It was a rather scarey moment but he jumped amazing!!'

Well done Katie and the very best of luck for the finals.
